The pressure is clearly on Jose Mourinho at the moment. Manchester United are winless in four. The performances have been less than inspiring.
Failure to win on Saturday at home to Newcastle United could well cost the self-proclaimed Special One his job heading into the international break. It’d give the Red Devils a fortnight to work on a replacement – in the short-term at least.
The bookies favourite to take over from Mourinho is Zidane. However, according to his close friend, Christophe Dugarry, the Frenchman won’t be headed to Old Trafford anytime soon…
“Zizou won’t go to Manchester. I’m telling you, he won’t go to Manchester,” Dugarry said on RMC Sport, translated by the Manchester Evening News.
“If he called Mourinho, I won’t eat one rat, I’ll eat two. I don’t believe it for one second, because the relationship between Zidane and Mourinho has never been good. Never.”
Personally, I’m glad. Zidane is a great manager. His record at Real Madrid is just undeniable. However, I question whether he’s right for United at this point in time.
We’ve already tried coaches with similar styles. Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes all play a more defensive game. Why not go for something different? Something more attacking? Something that would appease the fans even if the results take a while to sort out. As a match-going fan myself, I’d much prefer the latter.
I find the Tweet below quite apt. Curiously, United seem to be bending over backwards to keep Pogba happy. Honestly, I’d ship the #6 out the exit door as quickly as Mourinho. He’s been just as guilty for the toxic atmosphere that’s protruding through the club right now.
Sign Matic to unlock Pogba. Play him in midfield three to unlock Pogba. Sign Fred to unlock Pogba. Relieve him of defensive responsibility to unlock Pogba. Don’t play Alexis on the same side to unlock Pogba. Give him the armband to unlock Pogba. Sack the manager to unlock Pogba. https://t.co/uvstnFQzi5
