Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a horrific, potentially career-ending injury against RSC Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday night. The 35-year-old has been our figurehead and lynchpin this season, and now, we’re without him until the end of the campaign.
Now, the big man has finally spoken. Ibrahimovic updated his Instagram page late last night, as he thanked the fans for their continued support. He then added that he will be out of football for a while, but he does plan to come back even stronger.
Check out Ibrahimovic’s Instagram post here:
First of all, thank you for all the support and love. Its no news I got injured so I will be out of fotball for a while. I will go through this like everythings else and come back even stronger. So far I played with one leg so it shouldn’t be any problem. One thing is for sure, I decide when its time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option. See you soon
In typical Ibrahimovic fashion, there was absolutely no way that an injury was going to end his career. He wants to go out on his own terms and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The issue is, how long exactly does he expect to be out of the game, and will Manchester United renew his contract?
Personally, I don’t imagine the Red Devils will offer him a new deal. It just wouldn’t be a wise business idea to offer a man of his age a huge amount of money to sit on the treatment table for the foreseeable future.
It’s a shame, but I genuinely believe that he won’t play for Manchester United again, which is absolutely gutting. This is a man that has scored 28 goals for us across all competitions, and more often than not stepped up when we need him most. To be without such an influential figure for the key part of the season makes things a whole lot tougher for us.
Anyway, at least he’s remaining positive. I’ve no doubt he’ll be doing all he can to get back out on the football field as quickly as possible.
