Manchester United’s opportunity to close the gap on the top four has once again been and gone. Jose Mourinho’s men had a huge chance to get three points here, and put some real pressure on the sides above them – however, a 0-0 draw at home to Hull City ensued.
It was a real bad night at the office for all involved, and the performance as a whole certainly won’t fill the manager with any kind of confidence whatsoever. These are the games that Manchester United must be winning no matter what, and it just wasn’t good enough.
After the game, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had his say on the result, and he put it down to bad finishing. Going forward, this is an area that the Red Devils have to improve on drastically, because sometimes you only get that one change – and you have to be ready to take it.
“I think today was not about luck,” he reportedly told MUTV, quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “Because luck, if you don’t play good, and you get a chance, half chance and score, maybe it’s more luck but today we had great chances to score and we didn’t finish good enough and that happens.
“It would be nice to win today because the other teams lost points and we would come closer to, let’s say the top four, even for me top four is not my aim. My aim is to win the whole Premier League and if you don’t win you don’t come close, that’s it.”
At the end of the day, as our main striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is as guilty as everyone when it comes to poor finishing. However, tonight, Juan Mata had a golden chance and somehow he couldn’t find the back of the net.
Our upcoming fixture list in the league is rather kind, and now it’s up to the players to put this poor result behind them – and start getting back to winning ways as soon as possible.
