This season is set to be Christian Eriksen’s last at Man United.
Manchester United worked wonders in the transfer market this summer, securing a handful of new signings while also clearing out some deadwood.
Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, among others, have all left. Credit to INEOS for moving on from these high earners who haven’t really produced. Apparently, the job isn’t finished.
According to Give Me Sport, the 2024/25 season is set to be Christian Eriksen’s ‘final’ year at the club, as the Reds look to secure a long-term replacement for the Dane. Perhaps unsurprisingly, GMS also believe the same situation is set to unfold for Casemiro.
We’d like to focus in on Eriksen, as his contract expires in twelve months’ time, whereas in regard to Casemiro, United will have to find a buyer who is willing to take on his huge £300k-a-week wages. That’s far easier said than done…
Eriksen signed on a free transfer when Erik ten Hag took charge, helping this United side win two trophies in two seasons. His debut campaign was certainly the most impressive, with the midfielder looking right at home in the Red Devils side, providing assists, scoring the odd goal and allowing United to take control of games.
Last term, opportunities was far more limited due to increased competition, coupled with injury issues. His performance levels dropped off somewhat, which could be down to the fact he’s now approaching the back end of his career.
Rumours about his future were swirling this summer, though Eriksen does remain a Red Devil for now. He just wants to play football regularly. United may not give him that, though the Dane will remain the consummate professional that he is.
Eriksen has been a class signing for United. He’s more than played his part, though the timing feels right to let him leave when his current deal expires.
