3 Man United players who must be dropped after Brentford horror show

Just when you think it cannot simply get any worse for Man United, it absolutely does. The 4-0 loss to Brentford is just another horrific defeat in a long list that keeps growing. Sad times indeed.

Erik ten Hag is trying to perform with one hand tied behind his back. The Glazer regime is arguably at its lowest ever point, with momentum amongst the fans continuing to grow.

The current crop of players simply aren’t good enough, while hesitancy in the transfer market no doubt has the United manager absolutely fuming. It’s going to take a miracle for the Red Devils to get out of this rut anytime soon.

You have to lay some blame at the players’ door, too. Honestly, you could completely change the whole starting line-up, though the squad simply isn’t deep enough to do exactly that. So we’ve identified 3 Man United players who simply do not deserve to keep their place in the side after their woeful individual performances.

David de Gea

What De Gea did this weekend is borderline unforgivable. Fair play for the Spaniard, who came out and owned it at full-time, but we fans are bored of these empty apologies. Correct your mistakes on the field, trust me, we care far more about that!

The first goal was just an uncharacteristic error, while the second was just a suicidal pass that was never on. From that moment, De Gea never recovered, never had command of his penalty area and never looked confident.

Ten Hag’s issue is that Tom Heaton is now the back-up goalkeeper. Would it be unfair to thrust him into the team for the Liverpool game? Probably, but honestly, I’d like to see the change made. A penny for Dean Henderson’s thoughts…?

Marcus Rashford

I love Rashford. I’ve defended him and his performances for far longer than most. I can no longer sit there and watch him play like that. It’s just painful.

The Englishman had a stop-start 2021/22 campaign, though he has no excuses this time as Rashy has had the benefit of a full pre-season. He just looks completely lacking in confidence and on-ball quality. Worryingly, he has done for at least a year.

There has been talk about a potential move to PSG. At the time, I was adamant we should keep the Englishman. Right now, it looks like a change of scenery could be best for all involved – assuming that PSG are prepared to stump up an absolute fortune to sign him, of course.

Luke Shaw

I was pretty shocked when Shaw somehow managed to keep his place in the side for yesterday’s game. He was hooked at half-time, but the damage had already been done.

Positionally, Shaw was getting caught out time and time again, while he could not deal with the threat from the Brentford attackers and wide players. He should hang his head in shame after that.

Tyrell Malacia looked really sharp in pre-season, so I’m surprised it has taken this long to get the Englishman out of the line-up. I honestly can’t watch Shaw and Rashford combine down that left-hand side anyone. It’s just painful.

Are there any other players who you’d drop for the Liverpool game next time out? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. Well the outlook is not great concidering over a billion pounds has been invested in the team. Not one star player is at Old Trafford now we have to make do with lower league quality how long before we are down their with the lower league teams.

  2. Look at Bruno 2 games and don’t remember him playing, poor Fred a great ball chaser that’s it out of position most of the game. Sancho does he want to play and this new way of playing from the keeper does it really work NO. Maguire is better left side of back four, Dalot is poor defender and not the best at supplying crosses. Shaw has no confidence of our new back four player. Eriksen should be play maker not last man protecting back four. Ronaldo plays the way he wants to and the worst fault for all the team work rate out run by both teams we have played

  3. Why does maguire escape criticism and for that matter sancho who looks so out of touch another 73m down the tubes
That leaves the biggest problem of all Fernandez 1 great season followed by shambolic displays
In truth a once great club is rotting away from the top to the bottom

  4. I honestly feel L.Martínez is a good player however to get the best out of him, shift him to RB, and replace Dalot, on LB try Malacia that kid is good, then the centre of the park let’s have the likes of Varane and Lindelof, Varane didn’t have much time to adjust to life in the prem League. Midfield play Fernandez and van de beek with the CDM being Scotty for now being the anchor of the midfield then in attack we need people who are leathal, use Eriksen to be the creator, supplying Ronaldo, and sancho up front. Keep de gea between the sticks

  5. Lisandro is not much use – has not much physical presence – as a central defender, but has played DM earlier in his career. Give him a shot there, it is a position where we are not overloaded with good options, and getting Fred to pretend to be a DM doesn’t work.
