3 Reasons why a Man United move for Kieran Trippier makes sense

Kieran Trippier is reportedly on the radar of Man United ahead of the summer transfer window.

A few days ago, we covered reported Manchester United interest in Atletico Madrid right-back, Kieran Trippier.

The English right-back is having the time of his life in La Liga, just one game away from the first league title of his career. However, he could well be on the move this summer.

With just twelve months remaining on his contract, Atletico Madrid may well be forced to sell Trippier in a cut-price deal. For United, a move for the 30-year-old star makes perfect sense – and here’s why…

Competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

It’s absolutely no coincidence that Luke Shaw was named Player’s Player of the Year this season after the arrival of Alex Telles. The Brazilian pushed our English left-back on to that next level, with Solskjaer now hoping lightning strikes twice.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has improved considerably over the last twelve months, despite having no real competition there behind him. Bringing in Trippier will not only improve our squad, it’ll also ensure Wan-Bissaka keeps striving for greatness.

Cheap

As reports suggest, around £15million will get the deal done. For a player of this calibre, it’s an absolute bargain in this day and age. Trippier’s set-piece delivery, ability to cross in a ball and defensive astuteness means he’d be the perfect rotational option for Solskjaer.

What’s most important is that Trippier is a different sort of player to Wan-Bissaka. It gives the gaffer options when going into games that require a change in tactic or style. What’s not to like about that?

Premier League experience

Trippier’s time with Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur means he knows the league inside-out. The 30-year-old will come back to English shores and be able to start games immediately if he’s needed.

Couple that with the fact that this squad is amongst the youngest in the Premier League and Trippier would bring some experience to that youthful dressing room.

And as a little bonus, it’s worth noting that Trippier will be returning home. Hailing from Bury, just like the Neville brothers, the ex-Spurs star will be close to his family which will be a lovely place to potentially end his career.
