4-2-3-1: Manchester United’s likely XI vs Southampton for EFL Final

Manchester United’s next game is by far the most important one of the season until this point. Jose Mourinho has the chance to grab the Red Devils his first piece of major silverware as manager, but it won’t be easy as Southampton will provide a firm test.

Ahead of the match, we’ve decided to try and work out which way Jose will go in terms of team selection, and it hasn’t been easy. David de Gea will obviously return in goal, and he’ll have Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo in front of him as the main centre-backs. Antonio Valencia has been playing brilliantly for a while now, and he simply has to start. The left-back spot

David de Gea will obviously return in goal, and he’ll have Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo in front of him as the main centre-backs. Antonio Valencia has been playing brilliantly for a while now, and he simply has to start. The left-back spot is an interesting one, but I believe Matteo Darmian will be given the nod.

Onto the midfield we go then, and playing in two in that spot has worked very well recently, so why not try and continue that trend? Our best pairing is obviously Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera. They have mobility, intensity and a good eye for a pass. It should work wonders.

The front four is exciting. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will obviously lead the line here, as he aims for his twenty-fifth goal of the campaign. Mkhitaryan’s injury means Juan Mata will get a start, and the wings will be occupied by Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard.
