4-2-3-1: Predicted Man United XI vs FC Basel – Lindelof starts

It’s fair to say I’m excited. Champions League football is returning to Old Trafford on Tuesday night, when the Red Devils take on Swiss side FC Basel. The game will be an exciting affair, and it’s absolutely vital that Jose Mourinho’s men pick up all three points.

European group competition is all about winning your home games and picking up what points you can whilst on the road. Now, we’ve drawn up our predicted starting line-up and it looks strong.

Check out our predicted starting XI here:

In goal, David de Gea will continue. But the Spaniard will have a different back two in front of him. Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will both come in due to suspensions handed to Eric Bailly and Phil Jones. Daley Blind will play as the left-back and of course, Antonio Valencia starts on the right.

Ander Herrera looked sluggish against Stoke City but I hope Mourinho keeps the faith and gives him another match. Paul Pogba will start, with Nemanja Matic getting some rest. Juan Mata will play as the #10.

You’d imagine that one of Romelu Lukaku’s main reasons behind moving to United was the fact that we have Champions League football on the table – now the Belgian will get his chance to play in this competition for the first time. Anthony Martial should start, as should Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
