4-2-3-1: Predicted Manchester United XI vs Crystal Palace – Wayne Rooney returns

Manchester United made some ground on the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City over the weekend, and now as we enter the festive period, the matches are coming thick and fast. Next up, Crystal Palace away from home on Wednesday evening.

We’ve decided to try and work out who Jose Mourinho will start with, and I personally think he’ll make a couple of changes due to one reason or another.

In goal, David de Gea looked back to his best against Spurs at the weekend and will obviously start. The first changed enforced on the manager is bringing in Matteo Darmian for the right-back spot, because Antonio Valencia has been hit with a ban and will miss the trip. Daley Blind will play at left-back, and the now regular back two of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones simply have to continue.

The midfield is an interesting one. I don’t see Jose playing Michael Carrick for the second time in a few days, so I imagine Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba will get the nod, with Wayne Rooney just in front of them.

One man who didn’t have a good game against Spurs was Anthony Martial, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Marcus Rashford brought into the mix. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is obviously injured so he’ll miss out, with a likely replacement Jesse Lingard down to his pace. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will lead the line.
