Manchester United’s season officially begins tomorrow, when Jose Mourinho takes his players to Skopje, Macedonia to take part in the UEFA Super Cup. The game itself will likely be an entertaining affair, and if we can win a trophy to start the season, it’ll be a huge confidence-booster.
Ahead of the match, we’ve taken a good look at pre-season, as well as Mourinho’s tactics to try and work out exactly how we’ll line-up. Have a look at our predicted starting XI below.
Check out Manchester United’s predicted XI vs Real Madrid here:
Of course, David de Gea will start in goal. With Eric Bailly banned, it poses a problem to the manager. However, Phil Jones’ ban is set to be appealed, which effectively means he’ll be able to partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of our defence. Antonio Valencia will play as the right-back, with Matteo Darmian making up the back four.
Then, we go onto the midfield where Nemanja Matic will start at the base. He’ll be tasked with breaking up the play, whilst also trying to get his teammates moving in the right direction. Ander Herrera’s energetic style of play, coupled with Paul Pogba’s creative genius makes for an excellent trio.
Both Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have had a stunning pre-season, and both definitely deserve the opportunity to play in a competitive game. They’ll play either side of Romelu Lukaku, who’ll be tasked with sticking the ball in the back of the net.
