4 key Man United players have been named as nominees for the 2022/23 Premier League Team of the Season.

Suddenly, we’re rapidly approaching the business end of the season. It feels nice seeing Manchester United compete at this time of year, for the first time in what feels like a while.

Erik ten Hag has delivered the club its first trophy, beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils are still pushing hard in two other cup competitions, too, while a top-four finish is looking good despite recent injury problems.

Four United players have been nominated for a spot in the 2022/23 Premier League Team of the Season for their efforts.

Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Marcus Rashford have all been nominated, after showcasing their skills at an incredible level this season.

Let’s start with the defenders. Shaw has possibly been the best left-back in the division this term, consistently proving himself on both sides of the ball. His attacking output, particularly link-up play with Rashy, has been a joy to watch, whereas he’s worked as hard as ever defensively.

Then we move onto Martinez. Although it has recently been confirmed he’s done for the year, his impact has been clear. After a shaky start, the Argentine has emerged as our best central defender, in terms of both playing out from the back and his defensive aggression. We’re very lucky to have him. Much like Shaw, he has an excellent chance at making it into the final XI.

Next up we have Casemiro, who absolutely has to make the cut. The midfielder has completely changed our fortunes in the middle of the park due to his experience, tactical nous and sheer class. He’s a player I always appreciated from afar, though when you watch him week-in-week-out, you understand his importance. There’s no better defensive midfielder in world football than the Brazilian.

Then you have other possible inclusions. How David de Gea hasn’t been nominated is beyond me. The Spaniard has put in some masterful displays this term, winning United games due to his unreal saves. The disrespect feels pretty harsh.

Bruno Fernandes is another who should have been given a nomination at minimum. The Portugal international continues to be at the heart of everything good about United’s play, while also contributing in terms of goals and assists.

Congratulations, lads!
