95% Pass accuracy, 2 tackles won, 2 interceptions and 7 clearances – Man Utd man shines v Bournemouth

Manchester United kicked off their Premier League season with an excellent away victory, by a 3-1 scoreline out on the South coast at AFC Bournemouth. The plaudits and headlines will be taken by Zlatan Ibrahimovic who scored a scorcher on debut, but Mourinho has brought in another real gem of a player.

Eric Bailly was rightfully handed the Man of the Match award today, and the former Villareal man has already gone some way to repaying the transfer fee that Edward Woodward sanctioned for him.

The guys over at Squawka compiled his stats earlier, and they make for excellent reading for the red half of Manchester. In terms of his defensive statistics, Bailly won 100% of his tackles (2), made 2 key interceptions, as well as making 7 clearances. These indicate that he is willing to clear the ball whenever danger arises.

On top of that, though, he also shown calmness and composure by playing out from the back wherever possible. The Ivorian finished the match with an impressive 95% passing accuracy, completed 36 of his 38 attempts.

It is early days, but you do feel like Jose Mourinho could have made one of the most underrated signings of the summer in this kid. He hasn’t put a foot wrong, and if he continues, we could’ve just found an excellent long-term partner for Chris Smalling.
