We need to talk about Aaron Wan-Bissaka…
For years, Manchester United have been bereft of a top-quality right-sided defender. I think it’s already fair to say that Wan-Bissaka is the best we’ve had since Gary Neville hung up his boots.
The Englishman has settled into life in Manchester excellently. After a stunning pre-season, it became about carrying that form into the Premier League games. Well, it’s fair to say the hype train surrounding the right-back is still rolling – and rightly so.
Against Chelsea, Wan-Bissaka didn’t lose a one-on-one duel while constantly bombing forward and trying to join in on the attack. A tricky away game at Wolverhampton Wanderers would be another real acid test. Again, our £50million man came through with flying colours.
As you can see from the stats below, thanks to @StatmanDave and @Squawka, the 21-year-old United star put in another impressive performance. Nobody made more tackles than Wan-Bissaka (9), he also played the most final third passes with 27 being completed. That’s five more tackles and nine more final third passes than any other player…
The right-back didn’t shy away from the action, either. Wan-Bissaka touched the ball 115 which was the second-most in the field. For a position which can sometimes be isolated, it’s fair to say the ex-Crystal Palace man excelled.
We were all told about just how good Wan-Bissaka was defensively. He has been outstanding, but the work he does when going forward is an underrated aspect of his game. As he continues to develop and grow as a player, United will only reap those rewards.
This is just the start of a potentially ten-year Old Trafford career and it’s fair to say we’ve all been so impressed with Wan-Bissaka. Next up, a game against the team who made him the player he is today. No doubt he’ll get a stunning reception off the Crystal Palace faithful…
