Aaron Wan-Bissaka Man United exit ‘could be announced’ today

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s Man United exit could be made official today.

Manchester United are now in a situation where they have to sell before they can buy. The Old Trafford club have been looking for an upgrade at right-back all summer long.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a brilliant player. However, he’s not the right stylistic fit for Erik ten Hag. That has been evident since day one. Hence, a move for Noussair Mazraoui looks increasingly likely to happen.

It looked as though Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham United had fallen through, though a breakthrough in negotiations with West Ham United has since happened.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, this United outbound transfer ‘could be announced’ today, with the reliable 26-year-old set to leave the club in a £15m deal.

This transfer will allow the aforementioned Mazraoui to be signed by the Old Trafford side, though United are receiving a small transfer fee for Wan-Bissaka, who did cost £50m. That’s largely due to the fact he was entering into the final year of his deal.

Wan-Bissaka has made an impressive 190 appearances for the Old Trafford club since being signed from Crystal Palace under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the timing feels right as the Reds would have lost him for nothing last season.

That said, I am somewhat sad. Wan-Bissaka is undoubtedly the best 1v1 defender in world football. Although Mazraoui is infinitely better with the ball at feet, having someone like ‘The Spider’ available for certain games was a real asset. I do wonder who is going to mark talented wingers out of the game for United this upcoming campaign…
