Manchester United have thrown up a real mixed bag to start off the 2019/20 season.
The major positives so far have been the new signings. My favourite, without question, is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It has been a fair while since we’ve had a right-back of his calibre, and I’m enjoying watching him flourish at the highest level. Despite his £50million price-tag, it’ll always take new faces time to settle into their new surroundings – that was the case for the 21-year-old.
In an interview with the official club website, Wan-Bissaka has named Paul Pogba as the United player who has ‘advised him a lot’ since making the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
“The older players help me a lot. Paul Pogba has advised me a lot. That first game in Perth, he was telling me the same thing everyone has: you’re here for a reason, play your game, play without fear, get up and down – that’s what I put into my head.” Wan-Bissaka told ManUtd.com.
It’s always nice to have someone you can call upon should you need them, and credit to Pogba for making Wan-Bissaka feel welcome from day one – with the Frenchman showing exactly why he should be in consideration for the captaincy role.
Wan-Bissaka is still extremely young in footballing terms and he will make mistakes over the course of this long, arduous season, but he has started well and is already building a rapport with the fans. It’s up to us to reciprocate that faith on the back of a bad game from the Englishman.
Thankfully, he has Pogba, and the rest of the dressing room behind him backing him up, and I’ve no doubt that this young man will go on to be an absolute hero across the Old Trafford terraces over the next decade.
