Erik ten Hag has given us a fitness update on both Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw.
Manchester United edged into the FA Cup quarter-final last night, overcoming a resilient West Ham United side 3-1.
The game itself was somewhat careless from a United standpoint, though when they conceded, the Reds clicked into gear and the game became comfortable.
Erik ten Hag had to do it without both Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw, who are dealing with respective issues.
Before kick-off last night, the gaffer provided a fitness update on the pair. Sancho is dealing with an illness, whereas Shaw has a ‘small injury’. Hopefully, the duo will not be missing for too long.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
One [Sancho] is ill. One [Shaw] is a small injury,” the United boss told MUTV. “I hope it is not too bad. We have to see how it develops to Sunday. They are not available for tonight, but we know we have good players in the squad and we can replace that.”
With a game against Liverpool just on the horizon, you’d hope that Shaw, in particular, is fit enough to start that game. He has been one of our best players lately, putting in top-tier performances left, right and centre.
The fact that he played on, while dealing with a problem, during the Carabao Cup final, says an awful lot about his character and mentality right now. The Englishman has that never say die attitude, which is crucial for any success at the highest level.
As for Sancho, the fact that this is just an illness is somewhat comforting. The winger doesn’t have any serious illness, rather, he’s just not feeling 100% right now.
If it’s just a bug or some kind of sickness, you’d like to to think it’s only a one or two day thing and he should be back in the squad this weekend.
Do you think the duo will be back for the Liverpool game this weekend? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
