Ajax are planning a move to bring Donny van de Beek back to their club this summer.

Manchester United Football Club, and their fans, were super excited when Donny van de Beek was signed a few years ago.

At that time, United were desperate for a central player who could control games and ultimately, win the midfield battle. The early signs from Van de Beek were certainly promising, though it has been all downhill since.

Injuries haven’t helped the former Ajax man, while he often dipped in and out of the starting line-up under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meaning consistency was difficult to find.

Now, the inevitable rumours about Van de Beek’s future are starting to swirl. He’s currently out injured for the remainder of the season, though he’s set to be back in time for pre-season (if he stays).

According to Football Insider, one club is targeting a move for the 25-year-old this summer; Ajax, who want him back.

The Dutch side are ‘keen’ to bring Van de Beek back to the Eredivisie in a cut-price deal. United paid £40m to bring in Donny, while they’d be willing to accept a figure of around £25m to let him go.

In terms of his contract, Van de Beek’s deal runs until 2025, worth about £120,000-a-week.

Although it was under Ten Hag where Van de Beek has enjoyed his best form, it never looked like he’d rediscover that form here in Manchester. Perhaps it’s best for all involved if he moved on sooner rather than later.

That’s not to say Donny is a bad player. He’s clearly good enough for the highest level. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work out in certain situations. That seems to be the case here.
