Alejandro Garnacho left Old Trafford on crutches yesterday, after Man United drew 0-0 with Southampton…

Manchester United’s day at Old Trafford on Sunday can only be described as frustrating. A woeful refereeing performance had United down to ten men for the better part of an hour. Credit where it’s due, the lads did well to not lose – and they did have chances to win it against Southampton.

What’s more infuriating is inconsistency. Alejandro Garnacho was on the end of a very similar tackle from Kyle Walker-Peters, though he didn’t see red as Casemiro did. Erik ten Hag was deeply disappointed in the refereeing display after the game. Rightly so, too.

After full-time, Garnacho was spotted on crutches, with his right foot in a boot. Now, the Reds will be sweating on the fitness of the young Argentine – while nothing was done about the follow-through by Walker-Peters.

I just don’t know how you can be so adamant that one was a red, while the other wasn’t even deemed a bookable offence. It’s baffling to me that these two tackles were in the same game, viewed by the same referee and VAR official so differently.

Garnacho, who has been a shining light for United this term, will now likely miss some time as a result, whereas Casemiro also faces a four-game ban. I hate crying about unfairness, but that’s exactly what unfolded at the Theatre of Dreams yesterday.

What’s even worse is that Ten Hag will likely be punished for criticising referees. The FA will double down on their mistake by handing him a fine and warning him about his future conduct. What a joke…
