Signings are needed before next week’s October fifth deadline. Today, the rumour mill is in full flow, with stories circulating claiming that Alex Telles has agreed to join Manchester United.
The left-back slot could do with an upgrade, but it’s not really a major need. However, at this stage, us United fans will take whatever signing(s) we can get.
It’s journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi with the scoop, who took to Twitter to share the latest on Telles. Apparently, the 27-year-old has agreed to join United, which is certainly a step in the right direction.
However, negotiations with the selling club Porto will continue as United have made a second offer to sign the Brazilian.
With Telles’ contract expiring next summer, the money we’re talking about here probably isn’t as substantial as it could be – meaning United could well get a bargain, all being well…
Anyway, check out Bouhafi’s tweet here:
Look, Luke Shaw isn’t a bad left-back, but Telles is better, assuming he can fulfil potential. Any signing that makes our squad better is certainly worth looking into, though it does feel somewhat like a panic signing to appease the fans.
What’s frustrating is that we’ve already covered stories claiming that United are still trying to haggle over fees. I get it, but there’s only so much discount clubs will give you In the end, you just have to pay up and get your man. It seems like United are trying to save every single penny possible when sometimes, it’s better to bite the bullet and get the deal done.
For what it’s worth, I do think a Telles deal will probably happen – but only if United can sell a player or two first. Andreas Pereira, Diogo Dalot, Chris Smalling and Sergio Romero look like the potential candidates who are in the firing line.
FC Porto’s Alex Telles would be an improvement on the starting line-up, but he’s hardly the game-changing, big-name signing that we thought we were getting in Jadon Sancho.
