Man United have been dealt some cruel injury news, with Alex Telles ruled out for the whole of August.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s behind-the-scenes work ahead of the new campaign has been excellent. First Jadon Sancho, then Raphael Varane. Credit where it’s due.
With players still on holiday following international duty, the squad is looking very young during pre-season. One of the more experienced players who had been involved was Alex Telles.
However, the Brazilian went over on his ankle in training and was expected to miss a few weeks of action. Sadly, that issue is worse than first thought.
United have been dealt a further Telles injury blow, with Solskjaer confirming the issue is ‘more severe’ than first hoped, with the Brazilian now out until at least September…
“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for, his ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com.
This definitely poses a problem for the gaffer. Telles, in all likelihood, would’ve started the campaign as the first-choice left-back due to Shaw arriving back late following reaching the EURO 2020 final with England.
Now, United are left with either going with Brandon Williams in the season’s early going’s, or rushing Shaw back before his body is probably ready…
For Telles, his campaign couldn’t have started any worse. This was supposed to be the beginning of his road to success in Manchester and sadly, it has ended before it has even begun. Immediately, this puts him at a disadvantage as the left-back has had barely any pre-season – meaning he’ll go into the serious stuff without any match fitness whatsoever.
Hopefully, the issue doesn’t keep him out for much longer than early September. Telles is a great player to have in and around the squad and we’re definitely going to need him to start some games from time-to-time.
Get well soon, Alex!
