Alex Telles is set to miss the start of Manchester United’s domestic season next month.
Manchester United’s acquisition of Alex Telles last summer was nothing short of a masterstroke. Many thought the Brazilian would be the new regular starter in that left-back slot.
However, the former Porto defender would make an impact – but in a slightly different way. His addition was push Luke Shaw to dizzy heights, with many considering the Englishman amongst the best left-back’s in the world.
With Shaw still on holiday following international duty, it was expected that Telles would start the campaign as first-choice left-back. However, that’ll no longer happen.
According to The Telegraph, United have been dealt an injury worry, with the defender expected to miss the start of the season with a problem.
Telles would pick up the ankle issue in training, with Solskjer reporting the news to the media ahead of our pre-season game with QPR at the weekend.
At the time, it always looked as if Telles’ availability for the season opener was up in the air. Now, we know it’s highly unlikely we’ll see the Brazilian play vs QPR.
Now, it seems as though it’s a race against time to get Shaw ready for that one. If not, Brandon Williams is a more than capable back-up. However, it does put potential loan talks on hold for the young man from Harpurhey who needs to be playing regular football.
For Telles, it’s now about working hard on his recovery and trying to get back as soon as possible. Make no mistake about it, he’ll have a massive part to play this season.
