Alex Telles and Fred are set to miss Man United’s game vs Burnley due to Covid-19.
Manchester United Football Club are back at it in the Premier League this evening, with the Red Devils taking on Burnley. This is always a potential banana skin for any club, particularly at Turf Moor.
Tonight will be no different. Our lads will have to be up for an intense, physical battle against Sean Dyche’s men, who’ll be looking to cause the upset and give their home fans something to cheer about.
Ahead of the game, Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that a key duo will be absent for this one. Both Alex Telles and Fred are missing, with both Brazilian internationals picking up Covid-19 over the last few days.
It seems like the pair contracted the virus while they were back in their homeland playing for their country. Sadly, United will now be without them both for at least one fixture (probably two).
Check out what Rangnick had to say in full here:
“Yeah we have two players missing,” Ralf told club media exclusively.
“Alex Telles already missed the cup game because he tested COVID positive last week and, unfortunately, the same thing happened today with Fred. That’s why he will be missing from tomorrow’s game and possibly even the game against Southampton.”
With the squad suddenly looking really thin, I have to be honest, I’m starting to get a little concerned. A few players were allowed to leave on loan in January, while we also know what happened with Mason Greenwood.
Now throw in a couple more enforced absences and we’re quite low in terms of numbers. This is why you have an academy, though – and Rangnick has no qualms with tapping into the youth teams and promoting players from within.
This could mean another opportunity for Hannibal Mejbri to make it into the matchday squad. Though replacing Telles at left-back could be a little tougher, given Luke Shaw is the only other recognised left-sided defender in the current squad.
Hopefully, these guys aren’t missing for too long and they can come back feeling strong at the weekend.
