Alex Telles was feeling under the weather yesterday, so he didn’t face off against Brighton.
Manchester United Football Club played an absolute blinder over the summer, signing Alex Telles in a relatively cheap deal from FC Porto.
The Brazilian has looked pretty good on his eighteen first-team appearances this season, though it was his presence that has pushed Luke Shaw to a whole new level.
Our Englishman is probably the best left-back in the country right now, which genuinely wouldn’t be the case if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t sanction a move to sign Telles.
The eagle-eyed supporters amongst us would’ve realised that Telles wasn’t involved in the matchday squad yesterday. Well, now we know why…
The 28-year-old United man didn’t play vs Brighton yesterday due to illness, Solskjaer confirmed. The Baby Faced Assassin would stress it wasn’t covid related.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“He [Telles] was feeling a bit ill, not Covid related but he’s not fit enough to play. We’ve filled the bench with good quality.” Solskjaer told MUTV before the game, cited by Simon Peach.
Thankfully, this doesn’t sound too serious. Telles was probably just feeling a little under the weather and the worst thing United could do is risk having him in and around the dressing room, only to spread the illness to the rest of the squad – particularly with a game against Granada just on the horizon.
In reality, Telles will probably be fit and available for Thursday’s game all being well. Fortunately, we didn’t need the Brazilian yesterday as Shaw played well as United managed to stick another three points on the board.
I guess the only concern is that Telles won’t be happy with only played eighteen games this season across all competitions. Eventually, his patience will run out and he’ll be doing everything he can to usurp Shaw in the side. If that doesn’t happen, I can’t see Telles wanting to stick around forever.
