Alex Telles’ head could be on the chopping block now that the arrival of Tyrell Malacia is close.
Out of absolutely nowhere, it looks as though a deal to bring Tyrell Malacia to Old Trafford is imminent.
It goes without saying, the new United left-back will be a positive addition, with Erik ten Hag knowing him well from his time over in the Eredivisie.
As a result, Alex Telles’ place at Old Trafford is looking under threat. According to the Manchester Evening News, the United star is deemed ‘vulnerable’.
Samuel Luckhurst writes that the club had already ‘planned’ on offloading full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams, though with the addition of Malacia, another place in the squad has to be freed up.
Sadly for the Brazilian Telles, it’s he who is likely to be moved on to make way for Malacia.
Telles was given a real opportunity to nail down a starting berth at the end of last season when Luke Shaw was injured. Unfortunately for the ex-Porto man, he continued to disappoint.
Defensively, Telles struggled for any sort of consistency, while positionally he was borderline awful at times. Nor did we see the attacking output that we all expected from the 29-year-old.
Malacia will undoubtedly bring something fresh to the table and I’m genuinely excited to see how he gets on. However, we United fans will have to remain patient. No doubt it’ll take the 22-year-old some time to settle into his new surroundings.
For Telles, the hunt for a new club starts now. I don’t doubt that they’ll be plenty of potential suitors out there. Perhaps a move back to Portugal makes the most sense as things stand.
