Altay Bayindir looking set to leave Man United – but stay in the UK

Altay Bayindir is all set to depart Man United, with Turkish media talking up a move to Celtic.

Manchester United drastically overhauled their goalkeeping department last summer. David de Gea left. As did Dean Henderson. Andre Onana was signed to become the new number one, while little-known Altay Bayindir was also acquired.

The Turk joined from Fenerbahce, with initial reports suggesting that he was greatly impressing in training. At times when Onana was struggling, we all just assumed a chance for Bayindir was just around the corner. It never came.

Altay was only given one start across the duration of the season – an FA Cup game against Newport County. In truth, we still know very little about the shot-stopper. Although his Old Trafford journey could be about to end.

Give Me Sport cover the latest on Altay, relaying a report from Turkish media outlet Aksam. They state that the 26-year-old United man is looking likely to leave the club, though he could remain in the UK, with a move to Celtic in the offing.

The Hoops are losing Joe Hart after his three-year stint up in Scotland, as they look to replace the Englishman with genuine quality.

Bayindir represented a top tier side in Fenerbahce, so I cannot help but feel that he could play at a higher level than Celtic (no disrespect).

It does feel a little unfortunate that Bayindir was never given a real run in the team, though when you look back at it, it’s an understandable situation. Onana was signed for big money and he was always going to be given the minutes if fit. The man from Cameroon was never injured and he only missed one game during AFCON.

That said, I totally understand the player’s desire to leave. He’s still not at his peak age within the game and Altay simply has to be playing regularly to reach his maximum potential.
