Altay Bayindir will make his Man United debut vs Newport County this weekend.
Manchester United’s Andre Onana has been involved in quite the bizarre AFCON story. The goalkeeper missed Cameroon’s first game due to flight issues. He’d play (and struggle in the second game), before being dropped for what could be their last match of the tournament.
He could well be back in time for the Reds’ FA Cup game away at Newport County this Sunday. However, regardless of whether that happens, he will not play in that match.
It’s the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler with the scoop, who claims that United are set to hand a debut to Altay Bayindir in this game – even if Onana is back and in Manchester.
This will be the first time for United fans to see Bayindir in action, while it’ll also be Onana’s first absence from starting duties since his summer arrival.
Supporters have been crying out to see what Bayindir is made of ever since he made the move to Manchester back in August. The Turk was regarded as a hugely important figure for Fenerbahce, but has since been completely unused over the last five months. That will all change. I am excited!
The early reports from training suggested that Bayindir was doing well and if he puts on a good show against Newport County, there’s no reason why, with further starts, he cannot push Onana hard for Premier League minutes.
This is not a knock on Onana, rather we’re just keen to see what Bayindir is made of. The fact that we’ve yet to see the Turkey international out there has me worried (because he’s not yet been trusted to play) and excited (someone new) in equal measure.
