Álvaro Fernández Carreras reaches agreement to sign for Man United: report

Well, it seems as though Manchester United are on the verge of making their first signing of the summer; Álvaro Fernández Carreras.

Manchester United are set for a huge transfer window. This feels like a side who are on the rise, with the Red Devils looking like an outfit who are just a few pieces away from competing at the business end of tournaments.

Big-money signings, ala Jadon Sancho or Jack Grealish, could send them on their way. However, the 20-time Premier League champions should also stick with what they know.

Signing youth players has been a staple of their rich history. Why change that habit?

Enter, Fernández Carreras. According to Spanish media outlet AS, the 17-year-old talented defender has ‘reached an agreement’ to sign for United this summer, on a four-year contract.

The left-back is to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer, despite Los Blancos pushing hard to convince the left-back to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Instead, he chose United, who made their move and ‘pressed’ to acquire Fernández Carreras. The youngster is apparently excited at the thought of his Premier League ‘adventure’ and believe’s he’ll be able to ‘convince’ in Manchester – before making a jump into the first-team.

Where does Fernández Carreras fit in?

AS state that initially, Fernández Carreras will be placed within the youth team setup at the Theatre of Dreams. However, he could be offered the chance to train with the first-team if United have issues in the left-back slot.

This isn’t a player I’ve ever watched. However, Real Madrid made strong efforts to keep him, which tells you everything you need to know about his ability. Credit to United for going out there, acting swiftly and seemingly getting a deal done.

In terms of competition, it’s not going to be easy for Fernández Carreras. Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw are playing well, though they’re injured right now

Who knows, Álvaro Fernández Carreras may be within the first-team fold over the next twelve months or so…
