Ex-Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata, has a real chance of joining Man United this summer.
Manchester United’s search for another striker is now looking a little desperate. After Benjamin Sesko got away, Marko Arnautovic was linked.
Now, the search has seemingly led the Old Trafford club to Alvaro Morata’s door…
The Spaniard, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus, is still technically an Atletico Madrid striker.
A recent report from The Athletic states that the 29-year-old forward has been named as a ‘genuine possibility’ for a Man United transfer this summer. Apparently, talks have been held with Atleti, while Morata is thought to be available for a little under £30million.
Morata’s goal-scoring record over the last couple of seasons is a very decent 32 in 92 matches. Obviously, that’s probably right up there with United’s best ratios outside of Cristiano Ronaldo.
It’s thought that Atleti would prefer a permanent sale for Morata, though they could accept a loan. However, the striker would command ‘significant’ wages, which could become problematic for the Old Trafford club.
The idea behind signing a striker feels more like cover for the aforementioned Ronaldo, with the Portugal international looking like staying put for at least another season.
Morata feels a bit like an average option. Sure, he’d score goals in fits and spurts but you never really know what you’re going to get from him on a game-by-game basis. He’s either fantastic or underwhelming. Sadly, there’s no in-between.
However, United are pretty desperate. They need depth and right now, we fans would take anyone to fill that void. Once again, this smacks of an underwhelming transfer window, ending with United panicking and signing third or fourth choice options…
