Amad Diallo’s goal celebration explained

Amad Diallo would grab his first senior goal with a brilliant header against AC Milan. Now, we know the meaning behind it…

The game itself was a pretty dull 1-1 during which Manchester United played super-poory.

Amad Diallo was literally the only bright spark, getting on the end of an exquisite Bruno Fernandes through ball, coolly heading home and giving United the lead (at that point).

What followed was a rather interesting celebration (see below). He’d cover an ear with one hand and an eye with the other. It got us all asking the same question; what does it mean?

Well, courtesy of the official club website, we now know… The story is a touching one, with the celebration dedicated to Amad’s former Atalanta teammate, Willy Braciano Ta Bi.

Sadly, Braciano Ta Bi would tragically pass away aged 21 just last month, after suffering from liver cancer. Amad played alongside the midfielder in the Atalanta youth system, with both players also hailing from the Ivory Coast.

It’s just so sad when young people lose their lives tragically. It can be a cruel, cruel world sometimes, but Amad will never forget his mate and no doubt it’s a beautiful gesture that’s greatly appreciated by the whole Braciano Ta Bi family.

For Amad, what a moment it was on Thursday. Now, it’s about continuing to work hard on the training ground, while I reckon he has a great chance at being involved against AC Milan this Thursday too.

It’ll be interesting to see if Amad sticks with this celebration for each and every goal he scores for the Red Devils. Hopefully, this was his first of many – and what a touching story it is behind the celebration itself.
