Manchester United signed Ander Herrera for over £20million last summer, but it has always felt like despite just how much the fans love him, the Iron Tulip doesn’t have that same faith in the 26-year old attacking midfielder.
After the 0-0 draw away at Crystal Palace, the Dutchman met the media and clearly wasn’t happy with Ander Herrera after the match.
Louis van Gaal said: “In the last minute of the first half, Ander Herrera could have finished it but he didn’t. I asked him and he didn’t know why.”
It has always seemed that the manager isn’t completely convinced by Ander Herrera’s abilities. From the start of last season he seemed reluctant to use him wherever possible, but it felt like the Spaniard just kept on putting in performances that couldn’t be ignored.
Louis van Gaal doesn’t tend to single individuals out for criticism, but he clearly isn’t happy with Herrera after missing that chance – and the fact that ‘he didn’t know why’ probably further upset the gaffer.
