An Ander Herrera return to Man United hasn’t been ruled out by the British media.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week or so, Lionel Messi has left FC Barcelona. The Argentine superstar will head to the French capital, to ply his trade for Paris Saint-Germain.
Acquiring players like Messi aren’t cheap, even for the likes of PSG. Hence, some players will have to be moved on to balance the books. One footballer whose head is reportedly on the chopping block is Ander Herrera. That’s according to The Guardian.
What’s most interesting about the little snippet The Guardian offer on Herrera? A United return for the former fan-favourite has been deemed not ‘beyond the reals of possibility’ as midfield still feels like a problem position for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Bolstering in that area of the park definitely wouldn’t go amiss, though is Herrera that guy?
Well, it wasn’t too long ago when the Basque-born midfielder chose to walk away from Old Trafford on a free transfer for multiple reasons. He wasn’t the first name on the team sheet, while trophies were not being obtained.
Although his time in Paris has been glory-filled, Herrera has once again had to settle for minutes off the substitutes bench. Now, a move away could be a genuine possibility after just a couple of years.
Personally, I wouldn’t be banging down the door in order to bring Herrera back in. Although he’d offer something different to our current midfield options, he’s not getting any younger at 31 and he’d need to be replaced himself in a year or two.
I think I like the sentiment behind this potential rumour more than the actual transfer itself.
