Manchester United Football Club let Angel Gomes walk away close to a month ago now. The talented attacker is still club-less. Now, it seems as though LOSC Lille are keen on an Angel Gomes free transfer.
It always felt like Gomes would seal a move to a top-level club due to is sheer talent. I’m still somewhat surprised he’s still trying to sort out a move, particularly with the short turnaround in-between seasons.
Well, we could have been given the clearest indication yet that Gomes’ future could be sorted out soon. The story comes from La Voix du Nord, translated via Sport Witness, who state that Lille’s Club Director is ‘doing everything’ to seal an Angel Gomes free transfer following his Old Trafford departure.
Gomes made ten appearances for the 20-time Premier League champions before leaving, as he looks to seal regular football elsewhere.
Choose your next move carefully
It’s key that he gets his next career-decision absolutely spot on, or he risks bench-warming for a few more years. You get the impression that Lille is a club who could offer him regular minutes, largely because they have an excellent record at developing young players.
United themselves have never shied away from that mantra, either. Just look at Mason Greenwood, who has made over 50 appearances for the Red Devils already. In fact, he’s a year younger than Gomes, too.
I just think that Gomes came through at the wrong time. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and many more were always ahead of him in the pecking order. It’s just a shame that United couldn’t fit him in.
Wherever Gomes ends up, they’ll be getting a fantastic player. I still have concerns about the physical side of his game, but those are more than fair in the super-combative Premier League. Who knows, perhaps he’ll find football in France a little more suited to his style – should the deal go through of course…
