Anthony Elanga may actually see some minutes against Granada later today, according to the gaffer.
Just a couple of days ago, we learned that Anthony Elanga had been added to the Europa League squad.
I’ll be honest, at the time I thought this was more a case of Elanga there to make up the numbers in the middle of an injury crisis. Well, that may not be the case whatsoever…
Ole Gunnar Solskjsaer conducting his usual pre-match press conference yesterday, and had plenty of kind words for young Elanga. The Baby Faced Assassin was full of praise for the young Swede.
Solskjaer actually went on to state that the United youngster could ‘play a part’. If that happens, it would be a debut for Elanga and I honestly wouldn’t bet against it.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“I’ve got faith in the young lads, of course, and, in Anthony, we have a player with good skills, a great attitude and he scores goals from either the right or left, and he’s got good pace,” Ole told ManUtd.com.
“He’s not just there for experience, he might actually play a part, who knows? He’s got that X-factor and I like players with speed and acceleration and he’s definitely got that.”
Later on in the presser, Solskjaer confirmed Elanga wouldn’t start, though he will be on the bench for this one. He’d also admit the winger has impressed during training sessions and he would have already been with the squad but for injury.
Who knows, if things aren’t going well, Elanga could be chucked on ala Amad Diallo against AC Milan in the last round. The kids clearly talented enough and with respect to Granada, it could be the perfect situation to give him his debut.
Again, it’s just refreshing to watch Solskjaer put trust in our academy. There’s so much quality coming through at the moment and it’s a credit to the work that’s going on behind the scenes. This is what Manchester United Football Club is all about – and I absolutely love it.
