Anthony Elanga signs new Man United contract, expected to stay at club

Anthony Elanga has put pen on paper, committing his long-term future to Man United.

Merry Christmas Eve to all that celebrate it! And to sweeten the day, news broke earlier with Anthony Elanga signing a new long-term contract at the club.

The mega-talented Swede has signed on the dotted line, in a deal that runs until 2026. After working his way into the first team last season, the winger has since been identified by Ralf Rangnick as someone who can make a long-term impact.

No sooner had the German been hired, Elanga has signed new terms, with United getting the deal done swiftly and ensuring one of their biggest assets is tied down.

Now, according to Simon Stone, it’s being claimed that the emerging star is attracting ‘loads’ of loan interest, though as things stand, the Reds want him to stay at the club and presumably fight for a place within the first-team.

For Elanga, the fact that the likes of Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani could all be gone next season plays into his hands.

The Swede will know that an opportunity to start games with regularity is literally just on the horizon. Why wouldn’t he commit his future to here at this moment in time?

Perhaps one minor issue is the system. Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 doesn’t really facilitate the traditional winger. That’s Elanga’s best position. I don’t doubt that he’s working hard to try and play in that attacking-midfield role, though we need to be patient with him.

First and foremost, I’m delighted for Elanga and family. This shows just how much of a positive impression he’s made in such a short space of time. And this club trusts him endlessly.

Congratulations, Anthony!
