Anthony Martial has been offered a huge contract, by Greek side AEK Athens, after leaving Man United.
Manchester United Football Club have worked hard this summer. Not only have the 20-time Premier League champions signed some quality players, they’ve also cleared out some dead wood – which was arguably even more important.
Among those who have departed is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman started life in Manchester brilliantly, though that initial promise quickly fizzled out and the former AS Monaco man started to struggle.
With respect, his nine-year stay at Old Trafford is the epitome of the Red Devils’ recent struggles.
The fact that Martial still doesn’t have a club certainly paints the picture…
However, the former United number nine could have found himself a new home in the form of AEK Athens.
According to Sport24, via The Sun, the 28-year-old player is set to be offered the biggest contract in the history of the Greek club after his United exit.
If Martial commits his future to AEK Athens, he’ll usurp former Tottenham Hotspur player, Erik Lamela, as their big earner. He’d also find a new home after three months as a free agent.
This feels like a good opportunity for Martial to return to playing football regularly – assuming he can steer clear of injuries.
I honestly believe that as he’s been dipping in and out of the side, that has led to Martial’s struggles. He’s a confidence player who needs that consistency in minutes to maintain his high levels.
Although he may not be a star at the Premier League level, becoming one of the best players in the Greek league isn’t anything to sniff at.
