Man United have been dealt another injury concern, with Anthony Martial suffering a hip problem.
On the night, Manchester United just weren’t good enough against AC Milan. To a man, our opposite numbers were better than the Red Devils players – which is a stark contrast to the Manchester derby just at the weekend.
The game itself was a pretty dull affair, which can be somewhat attributed to injuries. After all, United were missing several key faces like Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.
Sadly, those problems became even worse midway through the first half of our game last night. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would confirm that United have been hit with an injury blow, with the key star suffering from a problem.
The thigh is the affected area in this case, though Solskjaer would stop short of telling us how serious the issue is.
Check out what the gaffer had to say here:
“No, it was an injury,” Solskjaer told United’s in-house channel, via ManUtd.com.
“Unfortunately, he got a whack on his hip, quite early in the first half so Anthony couldn’t go on. So [it’s] another one [injury].”
If it’s a major strain then Martial could be out for a fair while. The hope will be that it was an impact injury, meaning he’ll be sore for a few days, before the affected area feels as good as new.
The problem is that, right now, United simply couldn’t ill-afford anymore injuries in the final third. At this point, the only fit attackers United have are Mason Greenwood and Daniel James. Neither are hitting the back of the net with real consistency right now…
Aside from that, the only other option the Red Devils have is Amad Diallo. Sure, he scored last night, but throwing him at the deep end with too much expectation on his shoulders could be the worst thing for him.
With a huge game against West Ham just on the horizon, United find themselves in a serious mess. The good news? I guess if none of the senior faces are fit to play, we could see youth called upon. Charlie McNeill or Joe Hugill, anyone…?
