Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial for their game against Brighton this weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be one man light as Old Trafford plays host to our game against Brighton.
The injury blow was confirmed by French media outlet L’Equipe, as key man Anthony Martial was ruled out of the game against Brighton this coming Sunday.
Martial, 25, picked up a knee injury while playing for Les Bleus during their first World Cup qualifier. He’d then go on to miss the two subsequent games.
L’Equipe didn’t stop there, with Martial also labelled a doubt for the first leg of United’s Europa League quarter-final against Granada. That takes place on Thursday.
Martial just can’t catch a break this season, can he? Struggles in front of goal, going missing in games and lacking any real confidence. Now, the injury problems are starting to mount.
Rightly or wrongly, Martial now has people talking about whether he’s good enough for this club in the long term. The inconsistencies within his game are a major concern. Sometimes he looks like he can’t be bothered, while on other occasions he looks like an absolute world-beater.
Whether you can win a title with someone so hit-and-miss remains to be seen. Perhaps he needs a dose of the Alex Telles treatment. If United go out there and sign a truly world-class forward, it may force Martial to up the intensity a little bit in order to keep his place in the side.
The good news for Martial is that at 25, he’s still young enough to turn things around and show us all just how vital he can be for this team.
Hopefully, he gets well soon and finishes the season strong.
