Anthony Martial sends classy tribute to Arsene Wenger

Manchester United and Arsenal have always had a fierce rivalry. Both clubs were at the pinnacle of Premier League football during the early 2000s, under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Sunday marked the end of an era. It was the last time Wenger would head to Old Trafford as Gunners boss, but it was United who were left celebrating thanks to a 2-1 victory.

As you’d imagine, Wenger recieved a positive reaction from the Old Trafford faithful, and after the match, another Frenchman, Anthony Martial, posted a fitting tribute to ‘Le Prof’.

Growing up, Martial would have watched Arsenal in their prime, when Wengerball was alive and kicking. No doubt he probably dreamt about working for Wenger down the years, particularly thanks to his repotoir with young footballers.

Obviously, us Red Devils are delighted that he made his move to Old Trafford, but we simply cannot deny the fact that Wenger is a footballing legend.

Martial’s simple yet classy tweet is excellent to see, particularly as it puts rivalry to one side, praising Wenger for what he has done for football in this country.

Who knows, if Wenger does carry on his managerial career, coupled with Anthony Martial leaving (it’s certainly a possibility in my opinion), they could be spending next season together… PSG anyone?
