Anthony Martial set to miss out on Southampton game with injury

Anthony Martial will not play against Southampton today.

Manchester United Football Club are looking to make it two wins in two games, with a potentially tricky away match against Southampton in the offing.

The Saints always give us a tough test, particularly on their own turf. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men play some decent football and this is the type of game that United simply have to win if they’re serious about winning a trophy this term.

Well, ahead of the game, United have been dealt a big injury blow. One key player has been deemed ‘not fit’ by Erik ten Hag, with Anthony Martial suffering from an Achilles problem.

Obviously, Martial had a stunning pre-season and he was vitally important in that second 45 against Liverpool on Monday. Though when Ten Hag revealed that he now has another issue, I started to fear the worst when it comes to this game.

“Anthony Martial is not fit. He came out with a problem on his Achilles, [coming] out of the game, so we have to wait. I cannot tell a prognosis how long it takes but, of course, I hope that he will be available for the next game [Leicester].” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.

United, as a whole, have played far better with Martial in the line-up, than when he has been absent under Ten Hag. Sure, it’s only a small sample size but the proof is in the pudding. The Red Devils do not look as fluid when the Frenchman isn’t available.

Hopefully, this problem isn’t a long-term one. Achilles issues aren’t to be messed with, though Ten Hag didn’t seem sure as to when the former AS Monaco man will return.

In the meantime, it leaves Ten Hag with a big decision to make about who leads the line for this one. Cristiano Ronaldo is one option, though, for all his goals, he doesn’t link up the play as well as the likes of Marcus Rashford.

It’ll certainly be intriguing to see how this one plays out…

  1. We cannot understand why is that Man.Utd want to pay Ronaldo’s wages after his transfer and departure? We can utilise that money for other player’s wages and also to help with the buying players.
