Man United fans react to sub-par Anthony Martial display vs Burnley

Anthony Martial continued to struggle last night vs Burnley, with the United fans taking to Twitter to react…

Manchester United are top of the table. It wasn’t pretty, but I guess it never is away at Turf Moor.

In the end, the one goal was enough, though the result could have been far more comfortable if our star players were actually performing well.

I’ll start by saying this. Both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were poor last night. However, the former picked up a massive assist, while he’s having a far better season. He was also playing out of position. Understandably, United fan-anger would be directed at the Frenchman.

For me, it’s the attitude. Sometimes, Martial just looks disinterested in what’s going on. Last night, he wasn’t in the game anywhere near enough, which is exactly what you need from your top forwards.

His run-making was non-existent and when Martial did get into threatening positions, the attacker would often make the wrong choice which is unforgivable in these tight games.

When you’re scoring and influencing matches, you get away with it. Martial just isn’t producing the goods at the moment – and that has to improve if we’re serious about challenging for this league title deep into the season.

Martial’s night was summed up perfectly as he missed a golden opportunity to seal the game in the dying embers. Instead, he’d fire a tame shot when through on goal, before picking up what looked like a hamstring injury. Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious…

As you’d imagine, United fans were not happy with the 25-year-old for his poor display vs Burnley. We’ve compiled some tweets below…
