Anthony Martial was simply not good enough vs Sheffield United last night, with fans taking to social media in their droves to express their frustration.
Well, that was a reality check wasn’t it? Manchester United would succumb to defeat against the Premier League’s worst side. And at home, too…
It was a humbling moment for the Old Trafford club – but make no mistake about it, United got exactly what they deserved; absolutely nothing.
To a man, the players let their manager down, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t cover himself in glory both tactically and in terms of substitutions made.
Fans were rightly disappointed, myself included. Personally, I couldn’t look past the performance churned out by Anthony Martial. The Frenchman just didn’t look interested and his lackadaisical, half-hearted performance summed it all up.
I don’t like using the word lazy but that’s exactly what it was. Martial was ambling around the field, throwing his arms aloft like a petulant child and moaning when things didn’t go his way.
With the ball at his feet, Martial was often wasteful or looking for the easy option. Right now, he’s seriously struggling for confidence and that’s natural. However, we’re far more tolerable when the effort and intensity is there. Martial just didn’t look like he cared and that’s a major concern.
I like Martial, but his attitude simply has to change if he’s going to be the number nine in a title-winning side. The fact that he managed to see out ninety minutes last night without being substituted is a massive slap in the face to us fans by Solskjaer, too.
As you’d imagine, United fans were left disappointed with the 25-year-old yesterday and took to Twitter by the masses to express their frustrations…
