Anthony Martial will be sidelined for the next ten weeks, after undergoing surgery on a groin problem.
Manchester United Football Club have been plagued by injuries this season, with Erik ten Hag practically working with one hand tied behind his back at some periods.
The good news? Those problems seem to be easing up in the main, though there has been some negative news on that front today, concerning Anthony Martial.
The official club website have today confirmed that the United star will be out of action for 10 weeks, after undergoing surgery on a groin issue.
The Frenchman will now undergo a period of rehabilitation, meaning he won’t be back in action until April at the very earliest.
We haven’t seen Martial take to the field in 2024, leading to rumours about his Old Trafford future being potentially up in the air.
Honestly, this latest injury blow probably only reaffirms the notion that his time here in Manchester is done. Under Ten Hag, he’s been unavailable more than he has been available. That’s never going to sit well with any top tier manager.
With a winding down contract, I do wonder whether we’ll see Martial play for us again. It does give merit to all the reporters linking United with a move to bring in a new striker either in January or this summer. Rasmus Hojlund needs help and the Frenchman is not providing that help right now.
If the Dane goes down, we’ll be back to Marcus Rashford through the middle with no real back-up, particularly with Joe Hugill now away from the club on loan at Burton Albion.
Get well soon, Tony.
