Man United on red alert as Antoine Griezmann could be available: report

Well, we’ve certainly been here before, but the Antoine Griezmann to Man United rumours are back. Yep, really…

This was a saga we covered heavily a couple of years ago, with Griezmann choosing to stay with Atletico Madrid at the time; before moving to FC Barcelona a season later.

Now, rumours about his future are brewing again. The story comes from the Daily Mail, who claim that United (and other Premier League sides) are on ‘red alert’, as the world-class 29-year-old could be available…

Apparently, after Lionel Messi’s sensational U-turn, Barcelona are left in a predicament where they’ll have to sell someone. Griezmann could be that someone – after struggling in a season where he only scored nine goals despite commanding a £100m+ transfer fee.

Griezmann isn’t the only one who Barca would consider moving on, though he is classed as ‘particularly vulnerable’, though a deal would only happen if the Nou Camp outfit agree to a major loss on the Frenchman.

So should United make their move?

Honestly, you get the feeling that this ship has sailed. Griezmann would’ve been an excellent addition a couple of seasons ago. However, plenty has changed since then.

Griezmann’s performance levels have dipped while United have moved in a different direction in terms of their manager. Ole is now at the wheel and he’s shown an obvious preference to move for younger players. Why change that mantra?

The former Atletico Madrid man wouldn’t come cheap, either. Griezmann would command a huge transfer fee, and if United are intent on adding an expensive attacker, why not just go out and get Jadon Sancho as he’s the one it feels like Solskjaer really wants.

For now, I’d take this story with a pinch of salt as I don’t see United going down that road with Griezmann again. In football though, never say never…
