Antonio Conte would consider taking the Man United job if offered to him…
Manchester United Football Club are in a dilemma. Do they stick with Ole Gunnar Solskajer? Or try a different approach.
Let’s be honest, if results continue as they are, we’ll soon be completely out of the top four race, never mind a title hunt.
In terms of actual available managers, United would be pretty limited. Zinedine Zidane immediately pops into my mind, while Antonio Conte is also unemployed at present.
Well, in regards to the latter, there could be a chance at that move happening. The story comes from the Manchester Evening News, who claim that the 52-year-old manager would be ‘open’ to taking the Man United job.
However, it’s also reported he has some ‘reservations’ about the club’s structure. It goes without saying, nothing has run smoothly at Old Trafford over the last decade and the Italian is understandably cautious.
Apparently, Conte would want reassurances about the direction that United is heading in, while he won’t have ‘marketable’ players foisted onto him.
Honestly, I’d urge any available manager to approach this job with caution. Although it looks attractive on the face of it, behind the scenes, I’d imagine this is a supremely tricky task to undertake.
From a fan standpoint, I’m not sure I’d fancy Conte. His style isn’t exactly the most entertaining, while it’d be a complete reset as he’d want different players to fit his system of choice.
Personally, I’d hope we’d move for a manager with a more expansive style of play. The last thing the Old Trafford crowd need is more defensive, unimaginative tactics.
Whatever happens when/if they sack Solskjaer, the club absolutely have to get their next hire 100% perfect.
