Manchester United’s FA Cup dreams are over, thanks to a heartbreaking loss away at Stamford Bridge last night. To be fair to Jose Mourinho and his players, they acquitted themselves very well and in my opinion, they should all be extremely proud.
The Red Devils were the superior team for the majority of the first half, but the game definitely swung in Chelsea’s favour when Ander Herrera was sent off for his second bookable offence.
It was a real shame as well, as I thought it was a harsh second off for our Spaniard, and Michael Oliver definitely ruined a great spectacle. From that point on, Jose Mourinho’s men set up to defend – but eventually, they were broken down by N’Golo Kante.
After the game, you could just tell the Chelsea coach Conte was relieved to get through, but he had plenty of praise for Manchester United afterwards.
“It was a good performance against a strong team with good players,” said Conte, according to the Daily Star.
“United has the best squad in the league.”
Whether or not this is his way of trying to excuse what was a very average performance from his team, who knows? At the end of the day, I’m proud of our players. They fought for absolutely everything, and on another day we could well have won that game.
I believe it shown that we’re progressing as a team, and furthermore, Jose Mourinho knows exactly how to set up his side when it comes to taking on Chelsea.
