The absence of Antony left some of us puzzled at the weekend. Now we know why he was missing.
Manchester United coped without Antony over the weekend, with his absence a weird and untimely one. It left the Reds even further short in the final third, which is less than ideal as we enter into the business end of the campaign.
Speculation went wild in regard to why Antony was missing. There was talk of a possible bust-up with the gaffer, while others suggested it was a training ground injury.
Well, reliable X account, Insider United, has offered us all a further update. Apparently, the United star felt ‘some discomfort’ on Saturday morning. It was then discussed and it was decided that he would not travel with the squad for the game against Bournemouth.
There was also a small update on Alejandro Garnacho, who wasn’t feeling fully fit on Friday but he wanted to play through the pain. Unfortunately, he was clearly affected and he came off at half-time.

Thankfully in regard to Antony, it feels like him being made to sit out was a precaution, rather than the Brazilian dealing with something serious. It makes complete sense for him to sit out and miss one game, rather than risking making the issue worse and missing multiple matches.
It just came at an unfortunate time for the winger, who had looked pretty sharp over the last few matches. He made an impact against both Liverpool and Chelsea, meaning he would have been pushing for the start, particularly due to Garnacho’s illness.
Hopefully, this doesn’t knock Antony’s confidence and he’s back out on the pitch soon.
