Struggling Antony will be allowed to leave the Red Devils on loan, assuming a club is ready to cover his salary.
Manchester United have made two major signings this summer. Both of whom should help Erik ten Hag’s squad perform better next term.
If further signings are to be made during this window, money will have to be raised via player sales. Yes, that’s easier said than done given the huge wages that some fringe members of the dressing room are on.
One man who has been deemed surplus to requirements, seemingly anyway, is Antony.
ESPN detailed United’s transfer window so far and without boring you with all the details you know about, they offered a snippet of information on the Brazilian’s future. They state that the struggling United star would be allowed to leave on loan this summer. Presumably, that’s because no side is willing to buy him outright.
The only requirement United have is that his £70k-a-week wages are covered.
This is the first admission that Antony hasn’t been up to scratch (so far anyway), with Ten Hag seemingly remaining unconvinced by the Brazilian.
Yes, Antony has had his off-field struggles, though the fact he still has no right foot whatsoever is proving to be a real issue.
This also means Amad is now likely ahead in the pecking order. Factor in a potential Jadon Sancho return after his beef with Ten Hag was squashed, suddenly, playing time looks limited for the former Ajax man.
I am honestly not sure what sort of sides would show an interest in Antony. £70k-a-week is no small amount. Only a select number of clubs could afford those wages, but do those teams deem Antony worthy of a place in their squad? I’m not so sure…
