Antony is set to be missing for around two months with an ankle injury. His season is over.
Manchester United booked their place in next season’s Champions League last night, though it sadly came at a cost.
The Red Devils were dealt a couple of injury concerns. Both Luke Shaw and Antony went down with separate issues – the former immediately felt more serious.
United’s summer signing was rolling on the ground in considerable pain, holding his ankle. He couldn’t put any weight whatsoever on the affected area, either.
Now, United may now know the extent of the problem. Sadly, it’s a season-ender for Antony if the report from The Independent turns out to be accurate.
The 23-year-old is out for up to two-months with the problem, that will rule him out of the FA Cup final – dealing United a blow.
It is a recurrence of a problem Antony suffered at Ajax last term, which kept him out for two months at that point. However, in some sort of small saving grace, the Brazil international will be fit for the start of next season.
United have now secured their Champions League place for next term which was always the main aim going into the season. However, losing Antony means the FA Cup final suddenly becomes much harder.
The winger works hard, presses from the front and has proven himself to be a real team player. It goes without saying, this match will be far more difficult without the big-money man.
In terms of replacements, you’d expect Jadon Sancho to fill that void, with Marcus Rashford starting on the left-hand side of a front three that’ll likely be spearheaded by Anthony Martial.
Get well soon, Antony!
