Man United could be about to launch another bid in an effort to sign Antony.
Erik ten Hag has so far been delivered three Manchester United signings as the Dutchman begins to mould the squad into one that fits his image.
Slowly but surely, we’re seeing signs of progress. It’s going to intensify when the serious stuff starts in a little over a week, though we have to be pleased with the football on display in pre-season.
Further incoming transfers are needed, with the squad still looking thin in some key areas. I have particular concerns about the depth in the final third. Those numbers could further reduced by one if Cristiano Ronaldo gets his wish to leave…
Winger Antony has been linked with a Reds switch for quite a lot of the summer, though all went relatively quiet on that front of late.
Now, Forbes journalist Sam Pilger has given us another update. He was responding to a fan on social media, claiming that the player is ‘edging closer’ to Manchester United.
Apparently, Ajax are now willing to lower their initially unreasonable asking price and do a deal. On top of that, United are ‘about to’ go back with another bid.
Antony, just like Lisandro Martinez, is another Ajax player who flourished under Ten Hag in the Eredivisie. I’m noticing a theme here with our new boss. He wants to surround himself with familiarity and comfort – which is obviously a smart idea.
The winger is someone else who is well-versed in Ten Hag’s high-pressing system, meaning the 22-year-old, if signed, could slot straight into the side from day one and do exactly what’s required.
I’m hoping for a quick transfer to take place as we’re rapidly approaching the start of the season and Antony will want as much time as possible to settle into his new surroundings.
