Ajax winger Antony has not been involved in Ajax’s first-team training, after refusing to take part in the session.
Manchester United Football Club and Erik ten Hag made their Antony intentions clear from day one. The Red Devils’ new Dutch manager was hot on the Brazilian’s tail early.
However, Ajax stood firm, rejecting bids and not budging on their hefty asking price. That made us all believe a transfer was completely dead in the water.
Well, after seemingly being unimpressed by other options, the Old Trafford club have revisited a potential deal for Antony. It seems as though Ten Hag’s side are ready to up their offer, in an effort to try and tempt Ajax into selling the attacker.
Over the last 24 hours or so, we’ve had another big update. It comes from the Daily Mirror, who state that the player has ‘refused to train’ amid interest from United.
Antony wants to follow his former coach to United this summer, while sources in Amsterdam believe it’s ‘only a matter of time’, before Ajax relent and allow the Brazilian to make his ‘dream’ transfer.
The Dutch side must be fuming at the moment. They’ve already lost Lisandro Martinez to their former manager, while key players Ryan Gravenberch and Sebastian Haller have also departed. They’ll be doing everything within their power to keep Antony at the club, particularly so late on in the window.
I genuinely believe it’ll take a massive offer, coupled with some extra push from Antony’s side, if this move is going to happen. It does seem as though the 22-year-old is willing to do his bit, though.
It seems typical of United that, they gave up on Antony, spent time looking at other options, only to go back to Antony. Why not just pay what Ajax wanted initially? This would have meant Antony would already be at the club, and likely at a cheaper price, too.
